Long
Island Rail Road (LIRR) – Take a trip back to the 1964 New York Worlds
Fair in Flushing Meadow on this HO scale layout of the Port Jefferson
Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. The layout occupies a 13’ x 19’
room, as well as an adjoining 12’ x12’ room in the basement. Work
started on the layout in 1988. In the larger room, he models from East
Northport into Jamaica Station. The track plan is a double track folded
dogbone and the layout is complete and fully scenicked. It was featured
in a major article in the September, 1997 issue of Railmodel Journal.
Since the last open house in 2004, the layout
has been converted to Digitrax DCC, sound installed in most of his
engines, and the layout expanded into an adjoining 12; x 12’ room. The
expansion models the LIRR third rail electric lines that ran from
Jamaica, under the East River, and into Pennsylvania Station in
Manhattan. The East River tunnel is modeled as well as the underground
LIRR station platforms in Penn Station by using a unique cutaway. The
street level models the hustle and bustle of New York City

O'Ryan
& Webb Rwy (in On30) – The O & W is an all-steam,
old Western railway connecting to mountain logging and mining
operations. It has 250' of track tiered around a 14' x 20' family room
. DCC is NCE Powercab w/Booster. Upper-tier turnout
switches are hidden in drawers, others are manual. Buildings at the
goldmine, Ames, and Happy Camp are mostly foamboard mockups to try out
realistic sizes, accessories, and finishes. Loco's are Bachmann
Climax and Porter, plus Soundtraxx-equipped Mogul and Goose
(Railtruck). Via Miller sound units, cows "moo" at the stockyard
and a honky-tonk piano often plays in the Longbranch Saloon.
There are scratchbuilt water tanks, small engine-house, stockyard,
etc. Most scenery is yet to come.
